Juli Wenger:

You're on this earth for a purpose. You want to live a life that matters. So let's get through the fear and the overwhelm and all the crap that gets in the way of you living the life of fear for this is the becoming ourselves podcast where we are fired up about you getting clear on who you are, what you're called to, and how to get there. Because the world is waiting for you to show up and own your power. I'm your host, Juli Wenger, a coach, a speaker, a Jesus lover in Enneagram, two, and a tree shaker, let's dive into what's keeping you stuck. Because on the other side, is a life that's fired up the film. We're back for part two of my conversation with my dear friend, Jason Davis. And we're gonna dive right into talking about fear and choice and how understanding who and who's we are changes the dynamics of every buckle up. There's a concept of regulation units and regulation units essentially being we're rested. And we say we wake up on Monday morning, and we've had the weekend off, we have the capacity as just humans to make decisions. And it's funny because I learned about this in sales training. And it was this you don't get people on sales calls on Monday, Tuesday mornings, and like, Monday afternoons at like 230. And like, these are the windows where people can make decisions, right? And from a place of service, right? Of if we're really believing we're creating transformation for people, we want to put them in the best place to understand what is the right decision for them. So I'm going to caveat that. But where this really struck me as interesting is we when we are going to battle with our ego, we only have so much capacity, because it's just us fighting with ourselves. And so when I talk about new habit building, and I got clients are like, well just squeeze in that 10 minutes of yoga before bed, I'm like, Okay, well, is that realistic, that you're going to execute on it, because you're going to be at the end of your day when you're tired. And your regulation units might be all used up from the day. And so we default into whatever our typical or old pattern is, whatever easier, whatever takes less mental energy, because it's a well developed neural pathway. And when we look at this through the lens of faith, like if we're placing the decisions with him, if we're relying on him to fill us up, if we're allowing ourselves to be a flow through, then it's not like, just me and my human regulation units. There's this whole other space that I have access to if and this is key, if I choose to tune into it, if I choose to make time for him, like the mornings where I get up, and then drop my kids off at school, and I come back and I have like a half an hour and I just spend some time with God and I get into alignment for the day, those days, I'm like fired up and I'm ready to go. And I can tackle pretty much anything the world throws at me. And the days where I skip it. It's real easy to default into my old patterns. It's really easy to jump off into imposter syndrome, it's really easy to be like I can't, or I don't know how which is just your ego thrown up, overwhelm to keep you the same. Stay put, don't change anything. And when I step into Yeah, but I know that he's made me to be love and joy and strength and light and grace. And I know what my purpose is, and I know who I'm here to serve, then that just like this whole new wave of energy that pulls me through. And I think purpose can pull all of us through when we have clarity on it, but when it's his purpose, when we approach it through our Jesus follower lens, there's so much more power in it. And then it really isn't about us.

Unknown:

That's good stuff. It's about he, and because we're abiding and he'd back to John chapter 15. I am the vine you are the branches. And he who abides in Me and I and him it is he Interestingly, that abides just a fancy way of saying remain stay. He who stays with me. It is that person that does what Julie, bears fruit for, apart from me, you can do nothing. King Solomon back in Ecclesiastes, he said, I did everything. He had all the money all the women, you know, he was like the Playboy playboys back then. And the wisest man has ever walked. So he kinda knows a little bit what he's talking about. And he gets Ecclesiastes, and he just goes, You know what, I did it all. And it's all vanity, it's all chasing the wind. And then he ends the book, it seems kind of random. And many scholars have differing ideologies on why he chooses the end, because he's raised ugly is talking about Julie, I tried this. And I tried that in a minute, nothing. And then I tried this. And I tried that, and it meant nothing. And then I did this, and I did this, and I meant nothing. And he just goes on and on. And then he gets he and Ecclesiastes. And you know what, at the end of it, live life, follow God's commands. That's the whole gist of life. And you're like, wait a minute, what you just went on and on about I tried this. And that didn't work. And I tried this, that I tried this, and it meant nothing. And then you end it. And here's the crux of life, follow God's commands. And it's like, whoa, Solomon, that's kind of random. And it's like, was it he came to the end of himself, Juli. He came to the end of the video, I tried all this stuff on my own. And I circled back around to my god. Life is really about having a relationship with God, and being obedient and following his commands. And it's like a Mic drop. He goes on and on. And you almost think like, he doesn't know what he's talking about. Which of course, we know that's preposterous. Because just read Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, you will get an MBA on life. You will I call it you get your spirit MBA, get your spiritual MBA. Yeah, I'm not knocking

Juli Wenger:

on the teeth along the way. Yes, there's some to the point stuff. Indeed, he was a five he's a little brown.

Unknown:

Talk, I'm also in a year and five, but I'm not brash, I'm, I'm a loving. I'm a loving five. Now, I will say this. If I allow my ego to get in the way, I might show some brashness. But that's not my heart, I rather be the fired up five jewelry.

Juli Wenger:

I think that's not anyone's heart. And I think that's also what's so attractive about all of this to me is that we all have this side of ourselves, or there's a version of ourselves that we can step into, when you know, when we're stressed or out of alignment with our faith and our father. And for me, that looks like being a micromanaging angry person. We all have this version, this piece, this space we can go to, and it's not pretty. And being able to see that for what it is see that for this ego based over attachment to essentially the things of the world and who the world tells us we're supposed to be, it's you're supposed to be a certain level of helpful or you're supposed to be a certain level of Dependable are supposed to be a certain kind of intellectual and knowledgeable are supposed to be a certain level of in control, to be enough to be worthy, to be lovable, to be safe. We over attached to that stuff, which is not of God. And then we show up in this capacity that is not helpful, not attractive, not productive. And so often, it ties back to fear. And I was thinking about fear today before we hopped on this call and how fear shows up fear keeps us from wanting to embrace our own faith walk, fear shows up and says, No, maybe, maybe you don't want to do that. Maybe you don't want to step out like that. Maybe you don't want to be bold like that. Maybe it throws all of our triggers up in our face. And that's really what roots in behind ego is fear. And I really believed I think back a few years that I had a fear that I wasn't enough. And here's what struck me actually yesterday I was finishing up this book boot camp and Chanel hopped on. So shonali Martin, for those of you who don't know, powerhouse But she was talking about how God had healed her from fibromyalgia, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis. That's what it was. Just like, I didn't realize it was healed for a year after he healed me. So like, don't let that be you. And I'm sitting there, and I'm going. He had already said that I was enough. He's already said that I'm powerful. He's already said that I have this work to do, and I will do it. And why am I getting in the way? Why am I choosing to adopt a story, which is my ego, that has already been thrown out the window, and is not in line with who I am anymore. And the fear is our fears a liar, right? The fear tells us it's still true. The fear tells me I'll Julie, if you put this podcast out there, and a whole bunch of your audience is like, that is too much Jesus, for me, I'm out. I'm just gonna call a spade a spade, like he is telling me be more bold about your faith. I'm going, Okay, I'm going to do it. And there's all this fear that's up in my face. And then I get back, like into observer mode, and I go, but why? I have nothing to be afraid of. There's nothing on this earth that I need to be afraid of. Because I know who I am. And I know who's I am. And that's literally all I need. And what exists, it's possible. When I lean into that What exists is possible when we all lean into that. And our naffness is settled, there is no too much SNESs there's just becoming more and more us, because becoming more and more US is in alignment with Him because He created us. He created that core essence, he created that part of us that character structure that representation of him that is unique and required. And it's just awe inspiring to me to say all that we need to do, it's probably more like easy said than done. All we need to do is say okay, I claim that and I'm going to step into that. I'm going to just choose and choose and choose and choose over and over and over again to stay in that space.

Unknown:

I love enjoy. Scripture tells us perfect love casts out fear First John 418 and one of my favorite I think I've talked to you about this before Julie. I'm a big movie guy. And obviously I'm a comic nerd. So I love when the Incredible Hulk like takes a car and just Chuck's it like 10 blocks down. So when I say smash so what I love Julie is the perfect love, which is the love of Christ. It's that kind of love Agave love, the agave love of Christ and that's just the Greek word for an unfailing love not based on position like family, Brotherhood or sisterhood or romantic I think the Greeks got it right with the different words for love so Agave is just this unfailing love not based is not positional love is not based on what you did or didn't do for me. It's just I love you on yielding on failing love. So perfect love Julie. casts out fear. And it makes me think about the Hulk because the love of Jesus is like, pretend and again, I'm not trying to oh my god, Jason G. Jesus is not anything like the Hulk. That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is the love of Jesus is like when you see those Avengers movies, and you see Hulk tick that car he says Hulk Smash, and he takes that car and he just and he throws that thing, like miles away. Perfect love does that fear? Yeah, kicks it the you know what he double hockey stick, kicks it the heck out and says know, when you know that your love ain't no room for fear. It's almost like Julie went when your kids when there's a storm and it's thundering and lightning. And they go mommy, mommy, mommy, and they come and you hold them and then they're safe. Now here's the reality, Julie, you didn't stop the thunder, the lightning that God controls that. So there might actually be a tornado, there might actually be a severe thunderstorm warning. But because the children know that they're loved. They're not even worried about the lightning and the thunder. It's not that thunder. Lightning didn't happen. It's not that there's the big boom. It's not that that's not happening. It's I'm in mommy's arms. It's so the same with our Heavenly Father. I can go sit in my Heavenly Father's lap, I can go as in during the Passover, the disciples, they reclined. Julie. They reclined at the table with Jesus. I'm always so amazed when I read that, Julie, I'm like, Now wait a minute, some of you, you have a recliner in your house right now, listen, the disciples reclined at the table with Jesus and then get this. Julie, you want to talk about somebody who really didn't care what other people thought? Yeah, John, the beloved, you just straight up laid in the chest of Jesus. And you know, oh, well, I'm a guy. I don't, I don't do that. Here's the thing. And 2021 John would have said, I don't give a you know what, I'm laying on my Heavenly Father's chest. And that's that because I know in his presence, there is fullness of joy. So that when I get back up in life, throws punches at me, I go, Ah, I got my dad on my side. I'm not I'm loved. That doesn't mean people aren't throwing rocks. It doesn't mean business doesn't have issues or things like that. But when you talked about that, Julius why you got me fired up. Perfect. Love, takes that fear, like hope and just throws it away. So we have to allow ourselves to just be drenched. You know, think about a pool. I'm not talking about three feet. I'm talking about go down in the eight and the 10 feet Julie, I don't know if your kids can swim yet. But you know, the progression you remember when you swam, you know, you start out in a little kiddie pool. And then you're like, who the going up the three feet. And then you go out the five feet. Oh, I need some floaties now and though and it's like, wait a minute, now we're gonna learn how to swim because then Joey, we go all the way out eight feet, 10 feet. Now all of a sudden, we're getting invited to the lake. Oh, we're gonna go out in the lake in the river now and then ultimately, out at sea out in the ocean. And it's like, wait a minute, but I started all the way back in the kiddie pool. And look at me now. And dad is their Heavenly Father is there so I'm able to go in the life and I can attack things and I can make things happen. I can be someone that happens to things even when things are happening to me. I love my wife talks about being my wife says all the time, that that she is a walking solution to an everyday problem. So she's just walking around what problems so what problem can I solve? What problem can I solve? And she doesn't do it in her own strength. My wife knows far before she was my wife. She was God's daughter. So when she's having a tough day and she's not feeling because she's very much conquering type are here me where I'm like, girl, you better get it girl go get it. And then when she doesn't feel like that, she has to be reminded like Queen Esther in Scripture girl you were called for a time such as this ethereal lady listening to this. I've Julie knows because I've talked to this offline. So Julie already knows what it is. She knows what I'm about to say. Like Esther, just like Mordecai told Esther, you were called for a time such as this. Think about that. You weren't born in the 1600s You weren't born in the 1400s You weren't born in the 1800s You were born when you were born. So that Ted day now in 2021 You can do what he's called you to do to go into the marketplace and be a person of impact and dominate who Julie

Juli Wenger:

mon Esther had fear show up right? Because she's like if I if I go to the king and I you know, I'm not invited. I could get killed. Yeah, I could die. And I love

Unknown:

it, Julie because it's the there's two favorite if I had to think about like being an athlete, and I'm a former athlete played college football. The two greatest Icahn pregame speeches in Scripture. This is just my opinion. This isn't like a scholarly thing. Number one was the three Hebrew boys Shadrach Meshach and Abednego. The king, you know, there was an edict to worship an idol and they said the boy said, I call it now King Nebuchadnezzar, but you're like, Jason, that's weird. Cool. I agree. Let's call him Nebby. So they said to Nebby Nebby. We're gonna bow and guess what? Even if we die, that's okay. Because I know that my God can save me and I'll go a step further King, even if he chooses not to save me that still okay, this is what I envisioned Julie I envisioned Jesus up in heaven going now my god these these were teenagers these were boys. He's weren't men. He's a boy. And I just envisioned the Lord getting fired all I'm gonna get now again, you know, God talks to people differently but I imagine God got fired up I'm gonna go visit him personally and guess what he did. Now this is also very vivid now, they got thrown into a fiery furnace so this is serious business isn't just about getting fired up literally some things were getting fired up. In fact, they say the fire was so hot that even the guards who were standing by got consumed by the fire so this was burning hot. But guess what? In Scripture we know that God's present is known as an all consuming fire. So the all consuming fire came down to the earthly fire and chilled in the fire because the king said wait a minute, there's there's a fourth in there. I thought I put three people in the fire. They got a visitation from God. So in the fire, they were spared. And that's my first where I was going to second my second pregame so it first was a king Nebby do what you got to do. Because my God can save me and even if he doesn't choose to save me, that's cool, too. Esther's second greatest pregame pregame speech, Mordecai goes, you know, Esther, after what you just said, Julie set it up perfectly. Well, if I go to the king, I make it killed. Mordecai goes he kind of straightened up a little bit he? Yeah, yes. No, he didn't say Yo, Esther. That's just Julian, I talked him. But he's, he straightened up and said, Yo, girl, listen, girl. Who knows? If you weren't called for time, such as this. In other words, girl, maybe this is your time to go do what you got to go do. And Esther gets fired up because from that she goes I then motorcar. I'm gonna take because you know, listen, she's the queen. And Esther. If you look, this isn't Jason saying that she was a very beautiful woman and she had a good figure. That's what Scripture says, This isn't Jason Adams stuff. So she had some things going on. She says she was a bad mama. So she said, All right. I'm gonna take my girls, and we're gonna fast and we're gonna pray. And I'm gonna go talk to the king. And this is what gets me out sama dude getting fired up. So she goes, You know what? I'm gonna take my girls, we're gonna pray. And we're gonna fast and I'm gonna go talk to the king. And if I die, I die. And outside.

Juli Wenger:

Well, here's what's cool about this. Me versus we, she is not acting in self interest here. This is her purpose that is about showing up for an entire nation of other people. Right? And here's where I want to tie back to is like, this is my favorite. And this has been probably like, the verse for me over the last three years is Second Timothy one, verse seven. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, a love is translation, but of power, love and self discipline. So love and self discipline hit this fruit of the Spirit, peace and power, not timidity, not fear. You look at how she shows up, and it's like, Alright, I'm going to step into my powers Queen over here, and I'm going to go deal with this. And I'm not going to worry about myself, I'm just going to go handle it. I'm going to go be fierce. And where this is so important to me, is for all y'all people pleasers listening to this timidity, fear. That's what backs up people pleasing. It's like padding around stuff all day long. And when we can step out of the fear and say, That's not mine, that is not mine, like God's told me, that's gone. So if I'm choosing it, that's the only reason it's here. If I'm choosing not enoughness that's the only reason it's here. It's not because he has it for me, it's because I'm like, grasping at it. And that's serving nobody. But instead, I get to be powerful. And I get to be a love. And I get to have self discipline or sound mind because that's the other translation. And that has been such a permission slip on this journey of becoming myself of saying, okay, that's who he says I am. That I'm his daughter, and then I'm powerful, and that I'm love, and that I have a sound mind and that I have self discipline like that's it. There's my anchor, I'm just going to go choose that today, what do I need to do? And how do I need to show up to be that?

Unknown:

I love it in Julie, that scripture ha. So he tells you what he doesn't give, but he tells you what he does. See, that's the thing Julie, the world gives you. temporal things are things that don't last and may or may not give you answers. God always gives four answers and tells you what's possible, and what you shouldn't do because he doesn't leave you hanging Now, God's sovereignty, does that mean he'll tell you how you want him to know, he decides that he decides outcomes. But what I love about that scripture, Julie, is God has not given me a spirit of fear or timidity. Instead, power love and a sound mind or self discipline that power word this huge Julian the Greek, it's dunamis dunamis power. This is why you This is dunamis power. And let me just let me just break down because this isn't like some of you are just like, Okay, I'm power No, my crap I'm out. No, this is dunamis dunamis power. When you look at the Greek and think about this dunamis it's spelled like Dynamis but pronounced dunamis so literally, like you see the phonetic do like dude, you know, now power is not do do. I'm just saying that it's dynamic. And where do we see this? I said, Man, it's like the Greeks kind of get this thing right. We're dynamite. So that's what it says dunamis power is explosive. It's explosive power, but to do what when you look at dunamis power the Greek it means strength power or ability inherent power residing in the virtuous nature that someone exhibits to buy then this is not weird so stay with Julian i but this is how crazy Yes, this is it. It's it's its inherent power, its power for performing wonders and miracles. Its moral power and excellent see are Sol its power and influence to obtain wealth and riches. It's powerful. And resources to gather numbers. It's power, consisting from that of an army. So this is this isn't just like some random like, Oh, that's a night like, Yeah, cool. Jason. I did the pregame speech, and I'm ready to go tackle Summit. No, it's Nene that power. This is dynamite. power that comes only from God. That is the power of interesting jokes. I'm not giving you a spirit of fear, before love in the summer. In this case, we know in Scripture, sometimes we have to be careful in certain scriptures, certain things come before other terminology. And it means importance. Other times it's just the way the author of the book listed it and how we know that there are other scripture as another scripture that says, if you can go do all this stuff, and without love, it doesn't matter. So we know love, period. And scripture ain't nothing happening. Unless you have mastered and are currently mastering the love walk. So nothing's happened. So that's not the case. In this scripture we know loves most important, I just find it very interesting that the author goes with power. First here, it's like, an explosion happens. And then the writer says love and a sound minor self discipline. So that's why I got fired up Julie cuz I'm like, No, this ain't no regular power. This is dunamis dynamic dynamite.

Juli Wenger:

Power. And then we circle back to what I'm just showing Jason on my lock screen. She is clothed with strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future. And it's just it's funny to me thinking about Esther and power and how boldly and fiercely she showed up. And I can imagine the laughing without fear. Right I can imagine You know what more to cry you. You're right. Thanks for calling me out on my crap right there, I see what you're talking about. I remember who I am. Let me just straighten my crown and go throw on my heels. And I'm going to go tackle this thing. And like, you know, flip the hair giggle we're off, right? Like, let's go do this thing. And it's, it's fiery. And that's what I love about really diving into the details, because like, I couldn't read my Bible for years, I know, I've said this to you. But like, I just look at it and I skim over it like, this is like, I don't get it. This is the like, maybe I'm just not one of these people. It's meant to read it and get something from it. But this point in the journey where I can sit down and I can read stuff, and I'm like, oh, like, reading in Proverbs, I think was chapter 25, or 26 was talking about jealousy being like a fire that consumes you. And I got thinking about comparison. And I'm just like, whoa, you know, there's all of these linkages and parallels and themes that carry through. And when you start to pay attention, everything starts to come into this whole different focus. And it's exciting. Right? And for someone who grew up is kind of like, yeah, Christian. That's the only thing I know. But like, it's so different now. And it's so empowering now. And I want people to hear that. Because so often it is the poetic, right? And it's just like, we just roll over the words and like, oh, yeah, that's a final Testament story. But like, what was the point? What was the point? And what's the point for you this season in your life, and this concept of be too much, has been so potent for me this year, of becoming less apologetic, and standing in, I call it my own power, but it's his power that he's placed in me or that he's given to me that I then get to hear your favorite word's steward. And being able to look around and see how much weight is in that. And responsibility in that can be sometimes like who, but there's also this freedom and this excitement and this, it's like dynamite, it's fiery. It's like, boom, let's go, right? Let's do something that matters. Let's really be bold, let's be holy and authentically ourselves. And if that's too much, by the world standards, who cares because this is who he says I am. And I'm not having like, sideways blow outs of things. I'm trying to burry and bypass in myself because Julie told herself for a long time that she was too loud and obnoxious. So she try not to be loud and obnoxious. And then she'd get into a circumstance where there was an opportunity be loud and obnoxious and it would all come out at once. It's like that's not helpful. But when I can be fully me all the time, when we can be fully ourselves all the time, then we can stay out of that ego space, we can stay out of that battle all the time. And we can take that energy that we used to fight with ourselves and go and do something with it that matters number called to.

Unknown:

That's good. Julie, we're called to cause fiery explosions and the marketplace, fiery explosions, at whether we're writing a book, whether we're coaching, consulting, whatever it is we're doing, because it's not us who's doing it, it's Christ. And so that when we show up, and we walk in His power, it can't help but be fiery. And then people feel that they go Oh, my God, Julie, and I'm talking already, but not yet. Julissa, stay with me already, but not yet. I'm reading Julie's book in Oh, what is that girl? You better cam I know men will read it to Julie but girl You better catch the fire. What is this fire you speak of? Julie? Oh, let me tell you what that fire is because people want to know more. And it's not about possessing something. Again, we're not the X Men. We're not avenge.

Juli Wenger:

It's always wanted to be stored.

Unknown:

It is the power of God flowing through you so you can powerfully show up in the marketplace and cause explosions. And walking out your purpose and I love it. Julie and I think that's a perfect way as we land the plane, be too much and Be Explosive. And when you do when you do that, Julie when you're being calming more of yourself, guess what you're doing? And I have to throw this in because I am Mr. Fortified Julie, I'm just gonna let you do and you do this. You fortify all your tomorrows

Juli Wenger:

nailed it. There it is, for anyone that wants to follow up with Jason, we'll do the same thing we did last time. We'll throw some links in the show notes. Go buy his book. It's amazing. Thank you for being you know, authentically you and showing up and having challenging and inspiring conversations with me because I always learned things Jason's superpower is clarity. And he always leaves me with more clarity. So I really appreciate that and I'm really good at sparking people so we had some of that happen today to

Unknown:

you all imagine when sparking and clarity get together. Oh my god.

Juli Wenger:
