You are on this earth for a purpose. You want to live a life that matters. So let's get through the fear and the overwhelm and all the crap that gets in the way of you living the life of yours. This is the becoming ourselves podcast where we are fired up about you getting clear on who you are, what you're called to, and how to get there. Because the world is waiting for you to show up and own your power. I'm your host, Juli Wenger, a coach, a speaker at Jesus lover, and Enneagram, two, and a tree shaker. Let's dive into what's keeping you stuck. Because on the other side is a life that's fired up. Okay, this week on the becoming ourselves podcast, I am really honored because I get to have one of my author accountability group, buddies, sisters on the podcast. And Elise Nieves is a fellow author we are co launching books essentially, like our timelines are pretty much the same. And I wanted to bring her in to talk about her experience or the process because we've been leaning so heavily into my experience of writing a book, and it's good to get some other perspective. So, welcome to the podcast, I'm excited to have you.
Unknown:Thank you so much. I'm so honored and blessed to be here. So thank you for this opportunity.
Juli Wenger:We're gonna have some fun. Okay, girl. So tell the audience a little bit, let's do a little bit about you. First, like a couple of fun things. And, you know, the usual bio, whatever you want to share,
Unknown:of course, I am a new author. And that's really exciting for me, because I've always considered myself a writer. But this is the first time in my life where I've decided to just go for it, you know, and unapologetically own my gift of writing. As a new author, I am totally inspired to finally release my work into the world, and continue the journey. With that said, I am a mom of four. I am originally from New York City. I currently reside now in the Poconos. And PA, Pennsylvania. I am a wife, a campus pastor, new life coach as well. So I have a lot of news, things happening in my life. And I'm just excited for the journey that I'm on right now to continue this path, you know, like, this writing is really important to me. And I'm finally feeling free to go after it, if that makes sense.
Juli Wenger:Yeah, so let's talk about all the new because you remember last fall, when we started down this path of we're gonna write a book. And we got partnered up and you're like, things are shifting all over the place. And like, God told me go write this book. And now there's no there's been all these moving pieces, like you moved and the book is now written. And there's like, coaching stuff happening and network stuff happening and like all of these different pieces. So when that all started, if we go back to say like September ish, what committed for you that really triggered this whole journey
Unknown:I had to fully become committed to what God was calling me to do. I was wavering too much. I was doubting myself too much. And it wasn't until God had a one on one powwow with me, where he's like, hey, it was just one of the most empowering moments I've ever experienced with God as just him being God in my life. And he said, You believe in me, right? And I'm just like, Yeah, you know, it was just like a random candid conversation. It wasn't even like, a moment of prayer. I wasn't like praying at the moment. I'm just walking into my kitchen. And I get this random question asked to me within my spirit, it's like you believe in me, right? And I'm just like, yeah, absolutely. I believe in you. And then the question was posed, and why don't you believe in yourself. And that was pivotal for me. That is what changed the trajectory of everything new, you know, in my life. Everything that's just transpired since then, in my life, is the huge shift. So when he had that power with me, and I got the empowerment, I felt this need to respond and respond with commitment. Yeah. So what did that look like for you? It was the first step, the first step was actually believing in myself believing that God knew what He was doing when he deposited these gifts in me. And owning it. You know, that was the first step to own it. Then the next step was really just to make up my mind and say, I'm doing this, I'm doing it scared. I'm doing it. Without experience, doing it, even though no one else around me in my circle has ever done this. And I have like, no real like guidance from other people. But if God believes in me to do it, I'm going to do it. So I had to shift my mindset. I had to own it, and I had to commit. And then the process after that was like, I'm going to do this, I am going to join that bootcamp. And I'm going to write this book, and I'm going to commit to completing it, because I've written books before, just never completed them, and never committed to following through.
Juli Wenger:So this piece, I think, is really important. Because as we've been doing this round of solo episodes and talking about the process, that was one of the first things we talked about is a lot of people think, Oh, that'd be fine. I could totally write a book. But then what happens? Most people don't, right? Most people fall off for that, like, yeah, that's a cool idea. And I know, that's where I sat for a while, too. And eventually there comes a time where it's okay, are you going to or not? And it was for you. It was the season it was time. And I remember you essentially talking about how God says to you, it's go time, like, it's now it's not. So like, Are you moving? Or
Unknown:we had a couple of powwows. There was a couple of moments where I actually if I can describe it better for myself would be breakthroughs. It was moments of even deliverance for me, deliverance from disobedience, deliverance from fear, deliverance from self doubt, deliverance from commitment, like I didn't want to commit, because I was just so afraid of not completing it. I've started so many projects, and I've never completed them. I didn't want to do that again. Yeah. But there was this one moment where God had to get like really serious with me. He says, Listen, this is a book I want you to write. And I'm like, Oh, okay. Yeah. Cool. All right. Yeah. And he was like, no, if you do not write this book, he says, This is the last opportunity that I am giving you to write this book. And if you do not write this book, you will never published a book ever. And I'm just like, whoa. I was like, Oh, my gosh, it just really took my breath away. And I had to repent. I had to repent from I'm going to say being disobedient, because it's not the first book he's given me to write. You know, and but that was, all of it happened in the same amount of time, like when he had a powwow that, you know, a couple of, you know, rebukes exportations. And I just, I really had to decide and come to the make that decision and come in agreement with him, like you said, was the time to season right. So when I came into agreement with God, at that moment, I really believe that it anointed that moment for me to write like it like it was an anointed time and moment for me to write.
Juli Wenger:So here's what's cool for me, as an observer on this whole thing is you're sitting here and you're saying, I just haven't finished things like I've started lots of things. But, you know, generally, when you look back at your patterns, you'll look back at how you've shown up, it's like, I just, I don't, I don't finish. And so he and I think this is you and I have this in common. Sometimes he just hits us over the head with things. It's like, we're moving. And we're going now and I know how to motivate you. So to be like, it's now or it's not. It's like I recognize in you that you have this commitment to avoiding the finishing, and there's probably some, you know, some stuff there that, you know, we could get into that be super curious and interesting or whatever. But like this attachment to not finishing, I'm gonna motivate you to finish because I need you to show up because the people I'm placing on your path need for you to show up.
Unknown:Absolutely. Yeah. In this process. He challenged me he challenged me to show up for a few things, you know, he challenged me to show up for the dreams purpose, the plans and desires everything that he's placed in me. He challenged me to show up for myself, for even my own word that I gave to myself, Oh, I'm going to be a writer, I'm going to be an author, I'm going to write books. He challenged me in that. And he also challenged me to show up for, like you said, the audience, you know, the people who have been waiting for whatever it is that I am going to produce and share with the world. So he challenged me so many times, and he challenged my capacity. He's like, You can do this, I believe in you, I deposited this in you. And you can do it, you can totally do it. And I mean, we've had, I remember the vivid Conversations, I'm like, because I just don't want to fail again, I don't want to, you know, I don't want to start something that I'm not going to finish again. And you know, I had all these concerns and these worries, and it's like, and what are people going to say? And I will say, also, what really did help was I was tuning in almost every morning to be clubhouse rooms. And I was just going along with the prophetic writings, you know, the prophetic journaling. And I will say that during that season, the prophetic journaling really helped so much, give me clarity, give me the confidence, the boldness, and just the way God responded to me through the journaling was so impactful. Because being that I'm already a writer, and I'm a visual person, just seeing it in black and white. Right there. Those responses were pivotal for me in keeping my commitment. So there's
Juli Wenger:a couple things here that I want to dive into. Because the so look at the process holistically, I think people have this idea of what writing a book will be like, they think that it's glamorous, or it's filled with joy the whole time, there's no resistance like, so not, it's so not that. So here's the two things I want to tune into. One is how important the environments are that you put yourself into. And the second is heart surgery. Because you and I both know and have lived through, like when, and I think this is maybe a little different than like if you're just writing a book, and it's like secular and it's not a God call thing where he's like, I'm gonna partner with you on this. And you're gonna look back at this and go, I wrote that. Because it's not just us, right? It's not a solo process. But there is a him doing work in us and honest throughout that process thing that people just don't talk about enough. So maybe let's start with heart surgery. And then let's talk about the environments he put you in and the people he surrounded you with? Yeah, absolutely.
Unknown:Heart surgery, there was a process. There was such a process. Within my heart, I've been one of those believers that have always done self reflection. I love Bible verses that have to do with the heart, because it allows me to self examine, and see where my motives come from. So with the heart surgery, the motive was the main that God had to kind of like, readjust and work on like, Listen, this is not for you. It's not for you. So I need you to write it because one I said so. And two, there are people that need to read what you have to write when I'm placing in you to write, that's one of the main things that I had to work on the motive the why I kept on looking at the, you know, the woe is me, oh my goodness, I don't know how to do this. And I've never done this and you know, get over myself, I had to really get over myself. And think about all of the young women, all of the women, and even the faith based organizations and businesses and believers and people around the world that I believe will be impacted. I do believe that this book will go global i i have a vision for it, a prophetic vision for it. And in order for that to come to pass the heart surgery was necessary. It was so necessary to change my perspective, it was necessary to remove me from the process in the sense of like, this is not just for you. You know this, this is this is really important to get into the world and you have a message that I've placed in you, you have a message, and people will not be able to read it. See hear it if it's not projected out into the world if it's not shared if it's not visible.
Juli Wenger:Let's just digress here for a second and then we'll jump back to environments. Because we're talking about the message. Let's give some clarity on what that is. So you've been working with this concept of the proverbs 30 You want to influence her, which is also the name of the book. So tell us a little bit about the context around
Unknown:it all came at once. And when I mean by that I was just blown away at how God just worked with me in that. I was I felt led to just need a book club, not a book club, I'm sorry, the clubhouse a room. And just talking about the power study one influencer and what does she look like and what is that about? But then, when I was like, Okay, God, I can do that I can I can do that, you know? Sure. He's like, Yeah, but it's not just you talking about it. I need you to write it. It's a book. And I say, Oh, wait, this is a book. He's like, yes, yeah. I said, Okay. Yeah, sure. I can write this book, you know, and then we had that other conversation. And then he was like, but it's not only a book, it's a network. Because I need you to connect my women. I need you to connect my daughters. And I'm like, oh, oh, wow, whoa, wait, you know, like, when it was settling in, and this is way bigger than a book, and you know, a club room, that this is a whole entire network, and now, it's going to be bigger than what I thought. I was just like, whoa, wait a second. So, you know, we've had those other conversations and the concept is the world, the women of God are being influenced mainly by the world. Right? The young women, whether they are faith based or not, they are mainly influenced by the world. So there is a lot of the world influencing faith based, a you know, just just believers, what happens to the influencers, that the golly influencers, what happens to the women of God that are supposed to show up and own their calling, and be accountable to it and be the influencers that God needs them to be? So in the book, we write we, you know, I wrote about that I wrote about becoming the influencers. God revealed to me that influence is part of our quality. It's a part of it, you know, it has a lot to do with how we're going to reach people. And we have to own it, we have to own our influence. And we have to share it. So yeah,
Juli Wenger:that okay, hold up, pause there for a second, we have to own our influence. How uncomfortable is that? Right? Like, I'm just sitting here and I'm like, Okay, I'm, I'm doing a lot of work around, taking my power back and being too much and reclaiming that Reclaiming my enoughness and standing in the superpowers and the gifting that he's given me. And there's still that subconscious level tension, that ego level tension that's like, oh, wait, you're not supposed to do that. So and you're especially not supposed to do that from a faith place, because then you're definitely too much. And people might judge you. And kind of back to that question you're asking about with the book, like, What will people say? And so I think that we just need to pause here because as people are listening to this, like, just hold up, pay attention to the tension, okay, that's my favorite Andy Stanley as I'm ever pay attention to the tension, because that's a clue. And that might be a clue that your ego is, is getting in the way of what you're called to
Unknown:me. Because once again, it's not about you. You know, like, yes, there's a lot of you in it, because God has to work in you. But he ultimately wants to work through you. So owning your influence your God given influence, because it is God given, you know, owning it, and not apologizing for it, and really going full force with it and doing everything. So the book talks about this, you know, doing everything that God has called you to do, there is no limits. And yes, there is a timeline. But there are no limits. If he's called you to be several things, then you can do it. You have to partner with God, listen to His voice is leading, just according to his timeline, because there's an anointing in the timeline of God. And, you know, once you share your influence, that's it. There is no ego, because it's been released. It's not like once I say it, once again, it's not about or, you know, I'm only my influence because I am this because I am that no, we're only influence because we need to be examples of what it is that other people need and what other people are looking for. They're looking for heroes. They're looking for a voice of hope. They're looking for people influencers, to influence them into making the best decisions that they can make for their lives. names. And a lot of times with the whole concept of the proverbs 31 influence, or we have, in my book, we've transitioned the Proverbs 31 woman into the Proverbs 31 influencer. And I'm going to share this, because she has influenced us throughout the ages. Okay, she has been a staple of influence, but it's not really recognize that such the way that I've seen it for so many years, you know, being a believer. But with that said, we just have to really take ownership and just reflect on that, like, what does taking ownership of my influence look like? Yeah.
Juli Wenger:I'm just gonna breathe into that for a minute. Because this is, this is the work. And I think that this is what's so inspiring about what I see you doing and opening up space for people to really step into that. And claim it claim what God's put in you claim the gifts he's put in, you claim the voice, he's put in you claim, whatever it is that he's calling you, too. And here's what's funny to okay is this morning was listening to a podcast out of transformation church, in Tulsa. And they're talking about no limits, but they're also talking about it within the context of kN O W. And how, with God, when He calls us to stuff, there's no limits to the things he calls us to. And there are also limits that we need to know kn O W, about how he wants to put us through the process. And so as you're talking and going, oh, hold up, because as we're talking about book writing, and we're talking about that season of getting it done and a finishing, there is limitation that both you and I had to place on our life to be able to move forward the thing that doesn't have limitation that he's placed in us. So in terms of let's jump back to environment here for a minute, in terms of the environments you put yourself in, and maybe some of the things that you had to say yes to and no to. What do you think would be supportive there to talk about? Yeah, environment
Unknown:is definitely key. Aside from commitment, aside from everything else that we've spoken about, I believe environment is key. And what I mean by that, is that when you schedule your writing time, because I totally believe in scheduling it. I mean, there's some people that could probably do without that. But when I scheduled my writing time with the Lord, and I said, Okay, listen, how do you want me to write this book? And how because we were challenged, we were challenged to write this book, be it within 21 days, if you remember. We were talking. Yeah,
Juli Wenger:I sure. So rebel me is like, huh, we'll see this book might be too long for that.
Unknown:Yeah, yeah. So I mean, we were challenged. And I took this challenge. And I said, I didn't know how long it was gonna take me to write the book. But I was up for the challenge. And I consulted with God. Then I said, Okay, how do I proceed with writing this book? Like, yes, I found this amazing community to connect with thank you for that. Because you know, God that I needed that. And I had this amazing opportunity in my life right now that I have the time to write the book and really dedicate myself to it. Because God removed all barriers, on top of that says, like, he removed all barriers for me to not have an excuse, once whatsoever, to not write this book. So I'm going to say, partner with God, you know, and ask him how and when and where to create this environment that is going to be anointed. And that's what it because my scheduled writing sessions says, I'm gonna say they were anointed. They really were, in my schedule, time of writing was anointed. And when it flowed, it just flowed. And I was there for like, a good hour, hour and a half every single day writing. And I completed my book, and this is not in any way, shape or form for competition, I think. But in that 21 day challenge, I actually completed my book in 10 days. But it was because the environment was seasoned. It was anointed, it was appointed. It was it was really dedicated to God. Like the entire process was completely dedicated to God. Now, did I edit the book in 10 days? Was the book ready for publishing in 10 days? No, absolutely not. Like there's a whole other process because girl I was reading publish my book by November, I was like, Oh, this is a breeze.
Juli Wenger:The learning curve afterwards, right? Like, you get up the first draft, but then it's this whole other world of what do you mean? I need to go through the whole thing with a fine tooth comb. And then I need to send it to people to pre read it and get their feedback, and then I need to get it and then I need to send it to the editor, and then I need to edit it. And then yeah, it's like, what is?
Unknown:I'm gonna say it was culture shock for me, because I was ready to choose. I'm a writer, I can do this. No, but no, it was a process. But yeah, for the environment, you definitely have to have a community, a supportive community as well. Because without that supportive community to provide a direction, for me, is what helped me with this first book. Now going forward, you know, I will continue to seek the Lord in His in guidance on how he wants me to do it. Does he want me to do it within a community again? Does he want me to do it on my own now that I have an idea of how to set that environment? But yeah, your community, your time your schedule, and keeping and staying committed to it? It's not like, oh, yeah, I'm gonna write an 8am. Oh, no, I don't feel like it. I'll just write that one. No, because that time was like, you literally appointed that time with the Holy Spirit. And he's the one that's sitting with you to write those words. You know, he's the one that's sitting with you to help get this out. And it's like, just negating you know, like, ignoring it. Oh, you know, I could do it later. No, we don't want that we rally we need to be committed, we have to have the community. And we have to set that environment.
Juli Wenger:Yeah. And there's something that's really special about accountability. Like when I think about you, and Katherine and Missy, and Adriana and us all, you know, having our CO writing sessions, or our encouragement sessions, or a prayer sessions, just, you know, being open with each other about the process, and the emotional stuff that was going on, or the challenges that were coming up. And knowing and this is common humanity, right, it's a core component of compassion is knowing we're not the only one that feels like we hit a wall today, and just nothing is coming. Or that we've gone back and looked at part of it. And it's like, I don't feel like it's that good. Right. And the inner critic starts to come out. Or, you know, for me, I remember talking to y'all about, like, my kids are melting down because this boot camp was during bedtime. So my husband, thank the Lord, he was so supportive, like putting them to bed by himself pretty much every night, and they're losing their mind. And I'm trying to write and just like, I don't know, if I could do this, and it would, would have been so much harder. Like, I will say, I couldn't have done it, because I can do all things through Him. But it's also this part of how he allowed me to do all things was surrounding me with you. Yes,
Unknown:I remember. When I did finish my book, I didn't want to share with anyone that I finished my book, because I didn't want to seem like an overage, Yo, you know, like, I didn't want to I wasn't owning I wasn't owning
Juli Wenger:I distinctly remember that like, girl, you gotta
Unknown:tell yes, yes, I did not. And you saw you guys saw what transpired and everything. And I did not I was just so afraid of sharing, like, Hey, I finished my book, and getting that praise, you know, getting that acknowledgement or getting that like good girl, you know, like, good or oh, you know, and, and just celebrating. I was I was struggling that day I was I finished the book and I'm like, I finished but like I was really being attacked by I'm gonna say definitely the enemy, but also by myself that like you said, that inner critic or that person that that tells you, no, you can't. You can't, you know, share that they're gonna think that you you think you're better than people. You think you're better than others because you finished and you know, in this dishonest time. So that negative voice of telling me I've had that voice for many years, telling me to tone it down and telling me to know, you're not going to share that because you're not worthy of it. To be honest. You know, you're not you're not that special. Yeah. So I went through that.
Juli Wenger:Yeah, don't be too much. I get it. Yeah. Okay. So let's talk about the book and what's like what's next for you? So we're both getting through this process right now as we're recording and we'll see when exactly this comes out. But what are your thoughts on release timelines or just what's next in terms of the release? Hi.
Unknown:in mind, I am looking at end of spring, maybe early summer, preferably end of spring, because I was not going to do the book launch team, I was not going to do the media pitch, I was not going to do the celebration of the work, like having a book tour or a book, a book publishing party. But the way I really have been feeling led by the Holy Spirit is like, when we really study the Word, and we look at the Israelites, you know, like the Hebrews, right? God was a God of celebration. He was he always had them celebrating something like that. Like, if you look at the customs and mannerism of the Jewish people, they were always celebrating something, at least from what I understand in the Bible. And I really felt like this little push, like, you better celebrate girl. And I really felt that it came from God, like you better celebrate. I'm a goddess celebration. And I want you to celebrate the amazing work that you've accomplished, and that you obeyed me on. And I want you to celebrate. So I do have some plans to celebrate the book. Now I'm I'm planning says like, I'm just planning these, a book launch parties, possible book tour, where I'm literally traveling. And I'm just trusting God in that process. But what's next is I am developing the network, the proper study want to influence the network in conjunction with what the you know, the book is, because it's really going to empower, I believe that it's going to empower one another. You know, I believe that the book is going to empower the network, that network has been in power the book, and both are going to empower the women of God as directed. But what's next for me as a writer, I do have a couple of books that the Lord has placed in my heart. And I am going to start to start working on that not right away. More maybe like towards the end of the year once the celebration starts dying down from this bottom. But that's my Yeah, my next steps is you know, our to celebrate to celebrate that. I don't know, that's the only thing I can really say like, just celebrate love.
Juli Wenger:Yeah, that is. I think that's part of that nature. I think that's part of what you're going to inspire people to do, right? If we're claiming our gifts and our callings, and that influence our status, and we're reflecting the nature of God, if he's a god of celebration, then it's just another piece of that picture of that influence that you're really leaning into. So I'm super excited. And for all of you that want to follow what Annalise is up to, we're going to drop some links in the show notes. And you can definitely stay tuned to my social for when her book launches, because you know, I'm gonna be sharing it, and just really excited for you. And I am proud of you.
